Position: Store Manager

Job Summary & Mission:

Our Store Managers are given a lot of responsibility and they take it on with a tremendous amount of seriousness, enthusiasm, and unrivaled energy. Moonstruck’s Store Managers not only learn how to run a business, retail store and café, they are instrumental in inspiring junior team members to be involved in the building of a new, exciting brand & company, within the community they work. All Moonstruck managers know how to get things done, and people naturally admire them for it. This position contributes to Moonstruck’s success by leading a team of Sales Associates to create and maintain the “Moonstruck Experience” for our customers and team. Our Store Managers are responsible for providing exceptional customer service, driving, achieving, and focusing on sales plans and objectives, training and developing Sales Associates, as well as establishing relationships within the local community.

In short, our Store Managers are responsible for driving store sales, merchandising, personnel management, loss prevention/administration and controlling expenses. The Store Manager is responsible for meeting and exceeding all company sales goals while maintaining a strong guest service environment. They must demonstrate operational excellence as well as ability to merchandise a strong brand. Maximizing Company sales and profitability is their primary goal. Our Store Managers develop and promote a sales culture in the store, monitor and drive customer loyalty and sales, by acting as a role model and holding employees accountable for meeting the Company sales and customer service standards. They successfully manage staff members and establish an ownership culture by through recruiting, interviewing, selecting and training employees. Responsibilities - Responsibilities are not limited to the following:

Leadership - Set goals for the cafe team, develop organizational capability, and model how we work together:

  • Manage with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promote the culture, values, and mission of Moonstruck Chocolate Co.
  • Manage and monitor café-staffing schedules to ensure that the café is appropriately staffed to meet the needs of our customer traffic, holiday rushes and peak business periods. Daily activities include assigning duties to workers and scheduling break periods, work hours, and vacations.
  • Develop, implement and manage ALL sales training activities in support of developing and maintaining a highly motivated performance team that achieves and exceeds sales team goals while ensuring that the highest levels of customer service & satisfaction are maintained at all times.
  • Provide leadership and communication to promote good morale and retention.
  • Ensure excellence in service to customers and fellow Moonstruck personnel, in person and by telephone.
  • Train and hold Sales Associates accountable for delivering legendary customer service.
  • Plan, identify, communicate, and delegate appropriate responsibilities and practices to Sales Associates.
  • Drive the implementation of company programs by developing action plans and directly motivating and instructing the café team to implement them.
  • Provide coaching and direction to the café team to take action and to achieve sales and operational goals.
  • Orchestrate the role of Floor Manager to control product freshness and quality, and to act as a role model for adherence to Moonstruck’s quality, visual and performance standards.
  • Recommend additions to or deletions of merchandise to be sold in the store.
  • Identify knowledge and skill gaps that impact the realization of current business goals.

Planning and Execution - Develop strategic and operational plans for the work group, manage the execution, and measure results:

  • Control stock levels and cost of goods, and conduct regularly scheduled inventories.
  • Maintain quality and integrity of all products. Manager is responsible for ensuring all product is within code date.
  • Administer health and safety guidelines, to insure Moonstruck is a safe environment.
  • Insure proper functioning of all café equipment.
  • Constantly monitor and manage café staffing levels to ensure Sales Associates development and talent.
  • Utilize existing tools to identify and prioritize communications and use discretion to filter communications to the café team. Communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately.

Business Requirements - Provide functional expertise and execute functional responsibilities:

  • Use all operational tools to plan for and achieve operational excellence in the store.
  • Execute timely performance and pay reviews, gaining commitment to performance goals.
  • Regularly utilize management information tools and analyze financial reports to identify and address trends and issues in café performance.
  • Ensure and is accountable for adherence to applicable wage and hour laws for non-exempt and minor café team members.
  • Ensure that café meets cash flow and sales budgets through sound fiscal management.
  • Evaluate monthly income statements and implement action plans to improve performance.
  • Develop unique ways to drive sales through events, community activities, and co-marketing opportunities. Recommend, develop, and implement appropriate and successful marketing activities.
  • Regularly use discretion in accessing external resources to support store operations and to execute district and regional initiatives.
  • Solicit customer feedback to understand customer needs and the needs of the community.
  • Monitors customer and industry trends.
  • Ensure current and accurate business, legal and personnel records and store resource materials.

Sales Associate Development / Team Building - Provide team with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunrities to build effective teams:

  • Challenge and inspire team members to achieve business sales results.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with café team.
  • Actively manages Sales Associates by regularly conducting performance assessments, providing feedback, and setting challenging goals to improve partner performance. Manage ongoing partner performance using performance management tools to support organizational objectives.
  • Recognize and reinforce individual and team accomplishments.
  • Ensure all team members receive and maintain Food & Health Safety certifications in accordance with local and state guidelines.
  • Ensure that training and development of team and Assistant café Managers progress according to expectations, coordinating district resources and training personnel.
  • Conduct ongoing recruitment and hiring of café Sales Associates staff and shift leaders according to Moonstruck’s hiring guidelines. Manage staffing levels to meet service and budget expectations.
  • Utilize and demonstrate effective management principles and practices.

Qualification & Experience

  • Four years of progressively responsible retail, hospitality or restaurant industry experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Chocolate & Coffee (Barista) knowledge a plus, but not required.
  • Experience managing, training, and motivating a team of 10-12 Sales Associates.
  • Strong experience analyzing financial reports.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university.
  • Receive and maintain Food & Health Safety certifications in accordance with local and state guidelines.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
